three.

After two full weeks with no contact, it was assumed by Management that Paul Clark had terminated his employment with Lyndon Medical Supply. To that end, requirements for the position of Shipping Clerk were hastily posted on each of the break room bulletin boards. Paul was well-liked, but a job is a job, and the work had to be done. Paul’s supervisor was halfway through his second day of interviews when he received the phone call from the police.

As the officer put it, Paul Clark had died, but the circumstances of his death were still under investigation, and therefore could not be discussed. Curious, Paul’s supervisor pressed for details, but the officer wasn’t forthcoming.  In fact, he seemed more than a little irritated to learn that Paul had, by all accounts, been missing for the three weeks prior to his death. That no one had called the police, or made more than the slightest attempt to avert this tragedy. But as the supervisor was quick to explain, there was simply no way to know.  And besides, this kind of thing happens all the time.
